AI Readiness Assessment

Find out where AI is already in use, and whether you're ready for more.

In 2–3 weeks, we score your readiness across strategy, data and privacy, people, tools, and governance. You get a scorecard, your top five use cases, and a 90-day plan.

An assessment in progress on a wooden desk: stacks of interview notes, a folder, and a blank scoring grid on a clipboard with a red pencil, beside a rainy window.

Who it's for

Leadership teams at mid-market companies in the Pacific Northwest that want a clear, evidence-based answer before they spend more. It fits best if:

  • People are already using AI tools at work, and you're not sure which ones or with what data.
  • You pay for AI licenses and usage is flat.
  • Your board has asked whether you're ready, or your legal team wants a policy.
  • You have thirty ideas and no priorities.
  • You've done our leadership workshop and want to go deeper.

The problem it solves

In most companies, AI use is already happening, just not officially. Staff paste work into personal accounts. Software you already own has switched on AI features. Nobody's sure what's safe to share. Meanwhile, leadership is being asked to pick priorities without a clear picture of where things stand.

The Assessment gives you that picture. It shows where AI is already in use, scores how ready you are in five areas, and ranks the use cases worth doing first, by value and by risk.

What happens

  1. 1.
A free call to confirm fit, scope, and timing.
  2. 2.
Kickoff. We agree on goals, a success test, the interview list, and the calendar.
  3. 3.
An anonymous staff survey, about 10 minutes, on how people use AI, what they worry about, and what they'd like help with.
  4. 4.
Interviews with 6–8 people across leadership, operations, finance, IT, HR, legal, and the front line. We include an enthusiast and a skeptic.
  5. 5.
A tool and "shadow AI" inventory: the tools you've licensed, AI features built into the software you already use, and the tools people use on their own. We frame it as amnesty, not discipline.
  6. 6.
A data and privacy checklist, so you know what questions to take to your counsel.
  7. 7.
Scoring across five areas: strategy, data and privacy, people, tools, and governance.
  8. 8.
A working session with your sponsor and two or three leaders to rank the use cases.
  9. 9.
A readout with your leadership team: the scorecard, the findings, your top five use cases with owners, and the 90-day plan.
  10. 10.
    A 30-day check-in.

You get a short written update each week along the way.

What you get

  • A readiness scorecard. Each of the five areas is scored 1 to 5, with the evidence behind it and an overall readiness rating.
  • A register of the AI tools in use, sanctioned or not, with a risk tier and a recommended action for each.
  • Your top five use cases, each with an owner, the data risk, a measure of success, and first steps.
  • A 90-day plan.
  • A written readiness report that ties it all together.
  • An AI use policy outline for your counsel to finish.
  • The readout deck, plus a 30-day check-in call.

Timeline

2–3 weeks from kickoff to readout. Keeping to that pace depends on interviews getting booked in the first week, so we'll ask you to name a coordinator at the start. The 30-day check-in follows the readout.

Remote or on-site

Remote-first, with time in the room where it counts. Interviews and the survey happen remotely. For Puget Sound clients, we hold the kickoff and the readout on-site. For clients in Portland, Vancouver BC, or farther away, we work remotely and can come for the readout.

Safe and private by design

  • We never access your systems. You share exports and summaries. We don't scan or test anything.
  • Redacted documents only. No customer personal data and no production data.
  • The survey is anonymous, and we only report results for groups of five or more people.
  • Interviews aren't attributed to individuals. Nothing is recorded without consent.
  • We use AI tools only with settings that don't keep or train on what's entered.
  • We never score individual people.

What it isn't

  • It isn't implementation. We don't buy, configure, or build anything. When it's time to build, we connect you with trusted partners.
  • It isn't a security audit, a penetration test, or a SOC 2 or ISO review. If you need one, we'll read your IT team's work first so we don't duplicate it.
  • It isn't a legal opinion or a certification. The policy outline and the data checklist are inputs for your counsel.
  • It isn't vendor selection. That's part of the AI Adoption Strategy.
  • It isn't a guarantee of savings.

What comes next

Most teams use the top five use cases and the 90-day plan to decide what to fund. If you want help turning them into business cases, vendor decisions, and a roadmap with names on it, that's the AI Adoption Strategy. Half of what you pay for the Assessment is credited toward the Strategy if you start it within 60 days of the readout.

If you came to us from the leadership workshop, half of what you paid for the workshop is credited toward the Assessment when you start within 60 days.

FAQs

Our IT provider already did an assessment. Isn't this the same thing?

Probably not. IT assessments usually cover infrastructure and security. This one covers how people actually use AI, your data and policies, and where the value is. We'll read theirs first and build on it.

Will staff be honest with you?

That's why the survey is anonymous, interviews aren't attributed, and we only show results for groups of five or more. We never score individuals.

Can you write our AI policy?

We give your counsel an outline grounded in how your company actually uses AI. Your counsel decides what it says and adopts it.

How much of our team's time does this take?

Most of it falls on a sponsor and a coordinator. Interviewees spend about an hour each, and survey takers about 10 minutes. We'll share the full schedule at kickoff.

Can't you just tell us the use cases?

We will, but ranked by risk as well as value. Without the data and privacy read, the wrong use case can expose client or employee information.
